Summary

Export Development Canada (EDC) is a Crown Corporation, 100% owned by the Government of Canada, with the primary mandate to foster the development of Canada's export trade and Canadian capacity to engage in trade. EDC was established in 1944 and later transformed into a Crown Corporation through the Export Development Act in 1969. Since EDC acts as an agent of the Crown for all purposes, its ratings are based on the the Government of Canada and all debt obligations represent obligations of the Crown and are payable out of the government's Consolidated Revenue Fund.
