DBRS Morningstar Releases Commentary on the Impact of the Coronavirus on Real Estate Firms in Canada and the U.S.

DBRS Morningstar released a commentary entitled “The Impact of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) on REITs and CRE Companies in Canada and the U.S.” that discusses coronavirus’ expected impact on commercial real estate companies in both countries.

Key highlights include the following:

(1) DBRS Morningstar expects the coronavirus pandemic to affect properties differently depending on the subsector.
(2) Hotels, recreational properties, and certain retail properties will—at least, in the near term—experience significant stress.
(3) Landlords to retailers of consumer necessities, e-commerce warehouses, and long-term-care properties should emerge relatively unscathed.
