ESG Factors for Companies in the Oil and Gas and Oilfield Services Industries

On February 3, 2021, DBRS Morningstar published DBRS Morningstar Criteria: Approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance Risk Factors in Credit Ratings. Of the 17 factors identified in the criteria, there are 13 relevant factors that can be applied to corporate issuers when using the DBRS Morningstar methodology Rating Companies in the Oil and Gas and Oilfield Services Industries. In this commentary, we address these risk factors and provide examples that could have a bearing on the credit ratings for oil and gas and oilfield service companies.
