DBRS Morningstar Releases Commentary "ESG Factors for Companies in the Oil and Gas and Oilfield Services Industries"

DBRS Morningstar released a commentary titled “ESG Factors for Companies in the Oil and Gas and Oilfield Services Industries” that addresses the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risk factors identified in “DBRS Morningstar Criteria: Approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance Risk Factors in Credit Ratings” that could affect ratings on companies in the oil and gas and oilfield services industries. Of the 17 ESG risk factors identified, there are 13 relevant factors (five environmental, five social, and three governance) that can be applied to corporate issuers when using the DBRS Morningstar methodology “Rating Companies in the Oil and Gas and Oilfield Services Industries.” In this commentary, we address the 13 relevant risk factors and provide examples of how they could affect credit ratings for issuers in these respective industries.
